Getting Started
mobileelements is a tool for creating mobile mashups. It operates under a software-as-a-service model and you pay on a monthly subscription. Enough buzzwords for you? I'm glad we got it off our chest. OK let's get real about what it offers you and how it works. It's as simple as this, you write xHTML which you host on your webserver. Your xHTML makes calls out to the mobileelements servers for doing image resizing/adaption, font resizing, etc. Then you test your site and adjust the phone database accordingly. Of course your xHTML can be dynamically generated from your own content management system. In fact, this is exactly the reason why you would use Mobile Internet Toolkit. You will save hundreds of hours.
Step 1 - Redirect phones from your website
Adjust your regular website to detect a mobile and redirect them to your mobile website.
Use our Mobile Redirection tool for that.

Step 2 - You write the xHTML
You write the xHTML and host it on your webserver at http://m.yoursite.com. xHTML is the standard of the mobile web. Don't know how to write xHTML? Learn
how to write xHTML yourself, it's easy and there is no black art here.

Step 3 - Image Resizing and Adaption
Use our image resizer to modify an image to render perfectly
on all those high end and crummy phones. Just like this:
<img src="http://www.mobileelements.com/MediaAdapter?key=0000&src=http://mysite.com/images/logo-large.jpg"
/> This call will take your jpg, which is hosted on your site, and
then render it for the end-user's phone. If the user's phone only supports gif
format then it will convert the image into gif format first. It will also reduce
the size of the image to fit on the user's screen. We figured all of that out using
our configurable phone database.

Step 4 - Resize the fonts
Point your CSS through our font resizing tool and we'll automatically
adapt the font size dynamically for the phone being used.
<link href="http://www.mobileelements.com/CssAdapter?key=0000&src=http://5thfinger.com/css/master.css"
rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> This CssAdapter call is going
to take your CSS and adjust any font sizes to the best font size for this user's
phone. Oh the font is too small? Just change the font size yourself in our configurable
phone database.

Step 5 - Test the results
Look, this is one area we wish we could help you more. mobileelements is not a testing tool or a simulator, for that you'll either need a lot of phones, or you'll need to use the awesome chops of a real phone testing tool like DeviceAnywhere. You could possibly make do with a few emulators like YoSpace Smartphone Emulator or ready.mobi, but these tend not to be that accurate, your milage might vary.
Step 6 - Adjust the phone database on the fly
It doesn't look right on your CEO's phone? Well, you can just fix the handset database.
This is where we can really help you out. So you've tested your mobile website and
the font size is too small on the Blackberry Pearl. All you need to do is to find
the Blackberry Pearl in your device database, and adjust the font size. It's your
own private database, change it as much as you need. Right now I hear you asking...
"but isn't this using the most accurate phone database in the world? Why would I
need to edit it?". Well yes, but even the most accurate phone database can have
incorrect properties. There is simply no truth in the truth of phone properties.
Should there be? Yes, there should be, and this is the job unrelenting job of our
handset data partners WURFL and .mobi. They're working day and night on this truth
and thousands of parties are contributing to their databases. Your edits will contribute
back to the truth. To learn more about our configurable phone database, it's easiest
to just try it.
